It was an historic moment for the world of golf. Callaway Staff Icon Annika Sorenstam on Tuesday was announced as one of the first seven women who have accepted invitations to become honorary members of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club.

This is the first time in the more than 260 years of the R&A’s existence that women have been granted membership into the club. We’re proud of Annika for being a part of such a landmark moment in the game; it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving player and person.

Earlier in the day, Annika took to Twitter to share her excitement.

Her husband, Mike McGee also added this tweet on her behalf:

In addition to her and the other six honorary members, a number of women have been admitted to the club and that number will continue to grow over the next few months.

Congratulations Annika!
