The XR 16 Sub Zero Driver. It’s a great name, a great driver for high swing speed players, and it’s off to a tremendous start on Tour. So what else is behind the Sub Zero? Here are five quick things you need to know:
1. Extreme Low Spin = Phenomenal Distance For Better Players
Make no mistake, this is a driver that’s specifically built with better golfers in mind. These players typically have high swing speeds that generate a lot of spin, and the Sub Zero is designed to promote extremely low spin to help them drive the ball even farther.
2. So it helps reduce spin for these players, got it. How does it do that?
The Sub Zero has a Center of Gravity (CG) that’s below the neutral axis. Or to put it another way, it’s the lowest CG that we’ve ever had in a Callaway Driver and that’s imperative for spin reduction.
We’ve used a new proprietary Carbon Triax Crown that’s our lightest carbon crown ever to redistribute that weight below the neutral axis. So if you’re a high swing speed player that can take advantage of this lower spin, you’ll be picking up more distance.
3. Why are there two weights on the clubhead?
Short answer: they can help you fine tune your trajectory. The interchangeable weights are two grams and 10 grams, and you can move the heavier weight forward for the lowest spinning, flattest trajectory. Or you can move the heavy weight back to promote a slightly higher trajectory and more forgiveness. They’re engineered for the workability and ball flight you’re looking for.
4. This is the driver Phil Mickelson is playing, isn’t it?
It sure is, and Phil loves it. He’s had it in the bag for all of 2016 so far, and if you’ve been following him at all you know that he’s hitting it extremely well. He’s averaging nearly 300 yards per drive and has said in interviews that “it’s the best (he’s) driven the ball in a long time.” And he spoke to how well his hitting the ball last week on Callaway Live.
The Sub Zero has been a fixture on Tour and you can understand why it’s so well suited for the world’s best players.
5. What are the shaft options on this?
We’ve got 20 premium aftermarket shafts for you to choose from, all at no upcharge. We know that one of them will be a perfect fit for your swing and tempo.
