3 Callaway Staffers and 7 Odyssey Putters In Top-10 At Merion

Phil Mickelson (T2), Ernie Els (T4) and Nicolas Colsaerts (T10) all made us proud with their fine play at Merion. While Lefty made a push for his fifth major, the Big Easy vaulted up the leaderboard on Sunday, and for the second year in a row Colsaerts was a factor at the U.S. national championship.

Mickelson posted his third top-3 finish in his last four starts with an X Hot 3Deep Fairway Wood (13°, Fubuki K 70x Shaft), X Forged Irons (4-PW), two Jaws Wedges (52° and 56°), two Mack Daddy 2 Wedges (60° and 64°), a HEX Chrome+ Golf Ball and an Odyssey Versa #9 White Putter.

He used his Mack Daddy 2 and HEX Chrome+ to hit one of the best shots of the year at the 10th hole on Sunday, where his 2nd shot landed soft out of the rough and rolled in for an eagle 2 that made the crowd erupt in excitement.

His X Forged Irons were on point all week, and he’s commented that he likes the CG positioning in these irons and how straight they fly. X Forged Irons feature CG Height Progression, which puts the center of gravity lower in the long irons for a higher trajectory and places the CG higher in the short irons for a flatter trajectory.

Els Makes Sunday Move, Finishes T4

Callaway staffer Ernie Els carded a final round 69 to give himself an outside shot, and he ultimately went on to finish T4 in another great major performance. At times it almost had the feel of his fourth major win last year at the Open Championship when he played great down the stretch while the leaders fell back.

Els played a RAZR Fit Xtreme 3-wood, RAZR X Muscleback Irons, a HEX Black Tour Ball, and a Tank #7 Belly Putter with Versa technology.

The Word On Els’ New “Versafied” Tank Putter

So just how did we develop a Tank Putter with Versa Technology for Ernie? The answer comes from our Odyssey Tour Rep Johnny Thompson. Johnny made the putter for Els at the Memorial and the Callaway staffer worked with it during his off week.

This model is 2° flatter than his Versa 90 #7 Belly gamer because he made a recent setup change, and this lie adjustment fits his new setup. Els has said he’s very happy with the Tank Versa model and is equally happy to have mid options with Versa alignment.

Colsaerts Contends All Week, Posts T10

First year Callaway staffer Nicolas Colsaerts has been a factor at big events this season. He’s now gone T10 at Merion, T9 at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, T5 at the Volvo World Match Play Championship, and he’s 3rd on the PGA Tour in Driving Distance. Colsaerts has really stepped up his game of late and we expect to see him atop more leaderboards as the season rolls on.

Odyssey Wins Putter Count At Merion, 7 Odyssey Putters In Top-10

Warning: we’re about to talk about Odyssey on Tour, so you’re going to see the number 1 a lot in this next paragraph. Okay, ready? Here it goes. Odyssey was the #1 Putter at Merion last week, just like it was the #1 putter at Augusta in April. The #1 Putter in Golf was also the #1 putter last week on the European Tour, Tour and the JLPGA.

The equipment report from Merion is another example of Odyssey’s major domination; when the world’s best compete for major championships, more players trust our putters. And 7 of the top-10 at Merion played an Odyssey putter, including Mickelson, Els and Colsaerts.

Versa Earns 3rd Straight Win, Gets European Tour Win Too

Meanwhile, Versa earned two victories on Sunday at the Najeti Hotels et Golfs Open (European Tour) and the Air Capital Classic ( Tour). While a Versa #1 Wide Black model won on the European Tour, a #7 model clinched the Air Capital Classic for back-to-back-to-back Versa wins on the Tour (yep, 3 in a row)!  Odyssey continues to lead all putter brands with 35 worldwide Tour wins this year.
