Breakout Year Coming For Ryo Ishikawa

He’s got the look. Callaway staffer Ryo Ishikawa has the look of a player who’s ready to make the leap from up-and-coming phenom to full on Tour superstar. In just two weeks, the 22-year-old global superstar has shown us that he can compete week-in and week-out with the best players in the world.

Ishikawa went 67-66-68-65 in Vegas over the weekend to post a T2 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open and move all the way up to fourth in the early FedExCup Standings. He played a RAZR Fit Xtreme Driver (9.5°), X Hot Pro Fairway Wood (17°), X Forged Irons and an Odyssey Versa #9 Black Putter.

Ishikawa has now shot 69 or better in seven of his first eight rounds, and his early performance numbers are incredible across the board. So far he’s averaging 310.7 yards per drive, 5.13 birdies per round, hit over 76% of greens and posted a 68.78 scoring average.

Get to know Ryo, you’ll be seeing his name on the leaderboard a ton this year!

Freddie Jacobson In The Mix Too

Since we’re on the topic of crazy stats, here’s another for you: Freddie Jacobson made only three bogeys all week as he closed out a T9 finish in Vegas. After working with the Callaway Zoo Crew on some new commercials earlier in the week, Freddie carded a final round 64 to vault up the leaderboard.

His Versa #7 Black Putter came through big, which shouldn’t come as a surprise for one of the best putters in the game. The Odyssey Staff Pro was sixth in strokes – gained putting and rolled in seven birdie putts on Sunday in another absolute short game clinic. Freddie’s got his sights set on a big season, and his putter should help lead the way.

Browne Reaches Playoff On Champions Tour

Olin Browne birdied five straights holes to start his back nine on Sunday in a final round 64 that got him into a playoff at the Greater Hickory Kia Classic at Rock Barn. After birdies at the 6th and 7th put him within striking distance of the lead, the Callaway Staffer birdied 10 through 14, and just like that he was atop the leaderboard.

Browne went on to finish T2 with two X Hot Pro Fairway Woods (15°, 17°), X Forged Irons and a HEX Chrome+ Golf Ball. His gaudy ball-striking numbers made us do a double-take; he hit 90.5% of fairways and 85.2% of greens. 90.5%!!! And he was third in putts per GIR. So to recap: incredible ball-striking and lights out putting make for great scoring. Glad we figured that out.

Willett Goes T3 In Australia

The European Tour touched down in Australia last weekend, where Danny Willett used a strong tee-to-green performance to finish T3. Playing with a 460cc FT Optiforce (10.5°), Willett ranked second for the week in driving distance and hit 80.6% of greens with X Forged Irons in his bag. That works.
