Here’s How Callaway Tour Pros Get Fit For Great Big Bertha

By August 18, 2015Headlines, Product News

When we launched the Great Big Bertha Driver and the Big Bertha Alpha 816 Double Black Diamond Driver on Tour a few weeks back, we knew that our players would be lining up to hit them.

With so many staffers switching into Great Big Bertha, we sent our own Callaway woods guru @JasonFinleyCG as a correspondent to tell us how our Tour Pros are getting fit.

Great Big Bertha Is Unlike Any Tour Launch We’ve Had

The excitement from players – seeing the name, the new bags and logos on apparel – was incredible.

A lot of our players also liked how easy Great Big Bertha was to use, the adjustability from our Adjustable Perimeter Weighting slide, and that it was a very playable and forgiving driver model with a hotter face.

Tour Pros are just as excited to try new products as regular golfers are, even if they’re playing well and they’re dialed in with their gamer driver.

Small Adjustments Paid Big Dividends

The primary adjustments on the Great Big Bertha Driver were on the loft with our Optifit Hosel to dial in ball flight, and also the shot shape with the Adustable Perimeter Weight (APW) slide.

Most players started with the APW in the neutral position and moved from there based on the shot shape they experienced. Minor movements in the APW helped them significantly improve on the shot shape they wanted to play.

There Are Plenty Of Driver Heads On The Callaway Tour Truck

It depended on the loft but we had around 25 of each loft in each model. They come in as heads only and many were just put on the player’s current gamer shaft to evaluate the head and reduce the variable of the shaft.

4 Big Takeaways From Watching The Pros Hit Our New Drivers

1) Players who were looking for additional draw bias or didn’t want the ball to go right tended to gravitate more toward Great Big Bertha.

2) The Alpha 816 Driver players a little stronger and worked better for those trying to get a lower ball flight with lower spin.

3) Players were hitting both of our new drivers longer in testing on the range.

4) Players had a reduced dispersion (high and low ball flight along with left to right ball flight) with our new drivers. As Jason noted, this is something that ALL golfers will benefit from.

The Great Reaction From Tour Players Bodes Well For All Golfers

The fact that it’s longer and straighter for Tour Players is a great thing, and it will be even more beneficial for the average golfer. Additionally, seeing the APW in action and the control it allows to improve shot direction without impacting forgiveness or vertical trajectory was very exciting.
