Callaway Warrior Club Fittings At The Desert Classic

We’re proud to partner with Birdies for the Brave on Warrior Fittings at PGA Tour events throughout the year. At each of these, we custom fit two injured U.S. military veterans into a full set of new Callaway clubs. And we do it on the range, just a few feet away from the best players in the world. It’s an initiative we’re extremely passionate about, and we held our first one of 2019 this week in Palm Springs.

Our two Warriors at the Desert Classic were Shane Mckenzie (below left) and Stu Wertz (below right) – both are U.S. Navy veterans. They both live in Colorado Springs and try to get out on the course as much as they can, even during some of the colder months of the year. Shane also plays in a number of military veteran golf events throughout the year, and he’s helped Stu catch the golf bug.

“This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Shane said.  “I truly appreciate the generosity of Callaway and Birdies for the Brave.” And Shane added, “It means the world to have the best in the industry work with us and put us in that tailored equipment…the same equipment that is given to so many PGA TOUR stars.  It’s been beyond amazing.”

This year, we will host Warrior Fittings at 15 PGA Tour events, and to date we have fit over 130 of these veterans into new Callaway clubs.

Their day started on the range at the PGA West course, where we had them test our new equipment – including the Epic Flash Drivers and Fairway Woods – to find the perfect 14-club setup for their games. Shane played a tight, consistent fade off of every club, and Stu picked up tremendous distance off his irons (with Big Bertha) during his fitting.

After getting dialed into their woods, irons, and wedges, they visited our Callaway Tour Truck with our Sr. Tour Trailer Technician Kevin Napier (below, far left) and Chris (below, far right), where our Tour Reps work on our Staff Pros’ equipment every week.

They finished out the session over on the putting green, where they both got fit for new Stroke Lab Putters.

We had a great time with Shane and Stu, and we’re happy to say that they enjoyed the experience too. It’s our privilege to work with these amazing Warriors.
